Wood and Low Maintenance Pergolas and Arbors
A pergola (commonly mistakenly referred to an "arbor") is a type of shade structure that can be installed over your deck or patio to provide shade and/or rain protection depending on the design. They can be freestanding or attached to a wall of your house.
There's two ways we build pergolas. For the lowest maintenance options, we utilize manufactured kits made from vinyl or fiberglass that are offered in many popular sizes, styles, and designs. For a truly unique pergola designs we use wood like cedar or redwood and custom build the pergola piece by piece.
You may be asking why we offer so many material and design choices. The answer is simple, pergolas are as much an aesthetic choice as they are a practical choice. No one material or design will meet all needs or tastes, so contact us at (201) 540-9086 for a consultation.
Vinyl Pergolas
Our vinyl pergolas are guaranteed for life against yellowing, cracking, chalking and other manufacturing defects for as long as you own it. We didn't try to reinvent the wheel when designing these pergolas. We relied on the proven success of wood pergola designs that have been built for fine homes for centuries. We converted these designs to incorporate low maintenance, long lasting materials using our extensive experience and the knowledge of the industry's leading engineering experts.
Fiberglass Pergolas
Fiberglass pergolas and columns should be painted. Fiberglass does not absorb moisture, so paint will adhere much longer. This, in effect, more than doubles the life of the paint. So with a good quality paint you may go 7 to 10 years or longer before recoating.
Now for the great news. A fiberglass pergola allows you to match your house trim color exactly. Or any other color that you want to match! Now you can have the look and adaptability of wood without all of the maintenance issues of wood.
Wood Pergolas
Wood has long been a favorite material for building fine pergolas and arbors. Naturally rot resistant, cedar is easily worked and finishes beautifully with stain or paint. And it looks great if left natural as well - weathering to a silver gray. A wood pergola allows us the greatest design flexibility with regard to size, shape and detailing.
